Convincing solutions for long term partnership

Background

A worldwide renowned corporation, active in the field of transportation, sought a dedicated and established partner to take over the Life Cycle Management of its electronic systems.

The highly complex products are anticipated to operate for an average of 30 years in the harshest of surroundings, and must remain in top operating condition throughout the entire time span. In the event of an unplanned break in operation, extremely expensive costs and/or penalties can arise as a consequence. The highest quality for the highest reliability, as well as absolute punctuality pertaining to delivery schedules, is of the utmost importance to the Original Equipment Manufacturer with regard to its image because of its high public profile.

Challenge

The potential partner must fulfill a multifaceted requirements profile:
• Profound know-how and a wide range of infrastructure, guaranteeing a robust development
• Experience with system integration: PCB assembly, system integration including mechatronics, wiring/wire-harnessing, software uploading and test
• Seamless traceability
• In-depth know-how along the entire supply chain
• High flexibility with regard to delivery performance
• Assurance of obligations over many years, e.g., repairs and spare parts production for 30 years. The complexity of the systems requires extensive experience and established structures.  This is especially true for maintenance of the product/system data and infrastructure, as well as the repair and replacement parts production, of industrial electronics.
• Field experience feedback for the improvement of succeeding product models

Solution

Enics provided efficient and convincing solutions to all challenges:
• A certified quality management system (ISO 9001, 14001 and 13485) guarantees the highest quality and seamless traceability
• 40 years of know-how, a broad knowledge base of engineering expertise and established structures assure robust developments, cost efficiency and on-time deliveries.
• Custom-built test systems. These provide the highest reliability at the lowest possible cost. For example, through such solutions as Burn-In, possible product infancy problems can be exposed and corrected under simulated operating conditions long before the delivery deadline.

During “Burn-In“, the system undergoes varying cycles of temperature and humidity. This accelerates the aging process. Defective components, which would otherwise cause a breakdown within the first years of operation, are detected and proactively replaced.

• Focus on above average Customer Management: A Key Account Team, specially tailored to the needs of the customer, assures proactive care along the entire product life cycle, short communication paths and a continuous exchange of experience.

• Flexibility, thanks to a stable Product Technology Transfer process. The customer has the opportunity to transfer series production to one of Enics’ cost-competitive plants following the ramp-up phase.

• Tailor-made Service Agreements assuring many years of obligated support.

The service agreement obligates Enics to maintain the data, infrastructure, know-how and component availability. This guarantees the customer that the product can be repaired, and spare parts produced, anytime within the agreed timeframe. Unplanned breakdowns are avoided through the performance of maintenance work. And thanks to detailed maintenance and repair reports, the customer can promptly implement design improvements in the next generation of the product.
